All in a day’s work!

In an impressive day’s work, a party of 11 NPA volunteers recently assisted an ACT Parks and Conservation Service (PCS) ranger to remove
245 metres of old barbed wire and mesh fencing and 60 well-entrenched star pickets from a reserve in Tuggeranong.

This completed the effort to remove a quadrangular fence around a grove of casuarinas.

Work parties are a key part of NPA activities.  Volunteers, often working alongside Parks rangers, do invaluable work in our parks and reserves, removing old fences, wilding pines and other invasive weeds, and replanting areas with native species.

In a recent statement, PCS Executive Branch Manager Stephen Alegria put the ACT’s Park Care volunteer force into perspective by stating that PCS has just over 200 employees and over 2000 registered volunteers.
