2009 Calendar Photographic Competition

The 2009 Calendar Competition and how it works

Members of the National Parks Association of the Australian Capital Territory Inc (the Association) and rangers and staff of Parks, Conservation and Lands are invited to submit a printed photograph  (preferably A4) which adheres to the theme of “Walking in Namadgi”.

This theme can be interpreted broadly - landscapes, wildlife, rangers, walkers and volunteer workers are all part of the visual fabric of Namadgi National Park.

A printed copy of each photograph is to be submitted to the Association. It is preferable but not essential for each photograph to be mounted on a basic piece of white cardboard with slotted holes at the corners, or some similar arrangement, and to have a short title.

The photograph should not have previously been published in a calendar or similar publication. The photograph may be in landscape or portrait format. The image should be sharp (not grainy) and suitable for enlargement or cropping (x2). As a guide, the digital image files should be at least 300 kb.

No photograph which may breach copyright laws or any other legal right will be accepted. If your photograph could be perceived by the Association as a potential breach of copyright or other legal rights, please provide written permission by the party which may have standing with regard to the copyright or other legal right issue.

The entries are due in the Association’s office no later than COB Friday 29 February, 2008. Our office address is 3 Childers Street Acton ACT 2601 and our postal address is GPO Box 544 Canberra ACT 2601.

If you would like to contact us about the competition, you could email us at  or phone us on (02) 6229 3201 (please leave a message).

There will be an independent judge. Entries will be short-listed. Short-listed entrants will be required to provide details about the size of their original image such as the number of megabytes of their digital photo or the film speed of their film. They may also be required to submit their original film or a CD of their digital photo. Some consultation may be necessary with them prior to final selection to ensure that the quality of their image is suitable for enlargement or cropping.

On a date to be to be publicised in February's Burning Issues, we will announce the winning photographs. Thirteen (13) photos will be selected as winners of the competition and are to be used for the cover and each month of a 2009 calendar to be produced by the Association. Winners will be required to submit their original film or a CD of their digital photo.

The copyright in your photograph remains with you. By submitting your photograph to the Association you are granting the Association a free, Australia wide, non-exclusive license to use the photograph in a 2009 calendar to be produced by the Association as well as in other upcoming Association publications such as the NPA Bulletin or promotional materials and on the Association's website. The photograph will be available for collection on request once a copy has been taken. The Association does not accept any liability or responsibility for any loss or damage whatsoever suffered as a result of direct or indirect use of your photograph.
