On 19 November 2015, the ACT Heritage Council placed the Glenburn Precinct, Kowen on the ACT Heritage Register. This will help ensure that the remains of several early European structures will be protected and conserved for future generations to enjoy. The heritage listing was driven by Col McAlister and the Friends of Glenburn, part of NPA ACT. The Precinct is surrounded by the Kowen Forest which is a commercially operating pine forest. Pedestrian and cycle access to the Precinct is permitted, subject to things such as forestry operations, special events and fire bans. Contact Access Canberra on 13 22 81. Access to the Precinct is mainly via the locked gate on Charcoal Kiln Road which runs to the north off the Kings Highway a couple of hundred metres on the Bungendore side of the bridge crossing the Queanbeyan to Goulburn railway. (A longer walking route is via the Molonglo Gorge and River Road.) The Precinct is well worth a visit.
